Code-based Sandbox Solutions being Disabled for SharePoint Online

being Disabled by September 1, 2016 for / !  In the Office Network at http://network.office.com (a great community for information, alerts, changes, and community support) people were clearly frustrated with the not only the change but the timing and lack of support for exceptions.  Anyone in Office 365 / Online who is heavily invested in code-based sandboxed solutions or has purchased 3rd party / vendor created solutions are stuck scrambling to meet the deadline and also stuck with the dev bill, fall out from management if it's not fixed, and also the change management/communication burden as well.  The change could have huge implications depending on the number of customizations, complexity of the code, and the time taken to write it originally/time to rewrite the code using CSOM within any given environment.  I imagine there

Office 365 Patterns and Practices (PnP) Partner Packs

Native Office 365 Responsive Design & Templates via Patterns and Practices

A couple of months ago Microsoft released the Office 365 Patterns and Practices (PnP) Partner Pack and it includes some wonderful goodies that are LONG overdue.  Among them is probably the most sought after feature that has yet to be natively baked into the product and that is Responsive Design. Here are all the features currently included in the Partner Pack but I am sure it will grow over time:
  • Self-service site collection and sub site provisioning solution
    • Fully configurable based on business requirements
    • Save existing site as new template from the standard user interface
    • Template creation does not require xml or script knowledge - New templates can be generated

The future of SharePoint (and Office 365)

Today Microsoft came out with a mind blowing amount of information, features, previews, and announcements about the future of SharePoint and Office 365 and how it is the core of Microsoft's, its customers, and its partners business. Microsoft said, the future of SharePoint is not about SharePoint, "but about empowering people, teams, and organizations to achieve more." From office Graph, the new developer framework, to Flow and PowerApps, the amount of new features and functionality is absolutely mind blowing. Another interesting and somewhat either unexpected or long overdue announcement was the immediate release and availability of new iOS, Android, and Windows mobile apps for SharePoint and Office 365. The key note was delivered by Satya Nadella, himself and shows Microsoft's continued big bets on SharePoint and the Office platform. I, as a SharePoint developer for over 12 years now, am proud to be part of such a huge and vibrant

Microsoft Flow – The MS version of IFTTT

Microsoft Flow the MS IFTTT Equivalent for Office 365. I was trying to explain Microsoft PowerApps for Office 365 to someone today and I used an example of an IFTTT recipe to describe some of the capabilities of PowerApps.  Since that time I would not necessarily use that analogy, because their is actually, believe it or not, an app for that.  Microsoft Flow which launched only yesterday with no youtube video coverage or major hype from MS, can be reach by the public via https://flow.microsoft.com/ is bypassing Microsoft's normal request for access model and is allowing users to directly sign up right away in "Preview Mode".  Flow Their is a nice video that demonstrates the functionality and at the beginning they say, "Problem is their is no good way to get your apps to talk to each other, connect them, or is there? Introducing Microsoft Flow for Office
